Clinical & Arthroscopic Findings of Chronic Anterior

Abstract
Anterior cruciate ligament is an important stucture which has a stabilizing function of the kinee. Anterior cruciate ligament injury is one of the common ligament injury of the knee joint and sometimes diagnosis of complete anterior cruciate
ligament
rup ture is delayed or missed. Authors studied 25 cases of complete chronic anterior cruciate ligament injury which were confirmed by arthroscopic examination form July 1990 to december 1992.
@ES The results were as followings:
@EN 1. 20 patients were male and 5 patients were female.
2. Age distribution was from 16 to 82 years and mean age was 31.6 years.
3. The most common cause was sports injury.
4. the most common symptom was instability and knee joint pain.
5. the mean duration of symptom was 3.l7 years.
6. The most common associated injury was meniscus injury.
7. Empty wall sign was positive in 18 cases and vertical strut sign was positive in 10 cases, and in 6 cases both empty wall sign and vertical struct sign were positive.
8. 12 ruptured anterior cruciate ligament were attached to posterior cruciate ligament and empty wall sign was positive in 8 of the 12s cases, and vertical strut sign was positive in 7 of the 12 cases.
9. Pivot shift test was grade 1 positive or negative in 11 cases 944%) and in 7 of the 11 cases anterior cruciate ligament was attached to posterior cruciate ligament.
We concluded that ruptured anterior cruciate ligament could attached to the posterior cruciate ligament, this phenomenon made pivot shift test less than grade 1 and misdiagnosis as partial rupture was possible. And we thought that arturoscopy was
essential for diagnosing ACL injury.
